Ingredients
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb Italian sausage, casing removed
- 1 cup red wine
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (28 oz) can tomato puree
- 2 fresh tomatoes, diced
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 1 tbsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, sautéing until onions are translucent.
- Add the ground beef and Italian sausage to the pot, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned.
- Pour in the red wine and let it simmer until reduced by half.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato puree, and fresh tomatoes. Bring to a simmer.
- Add the basil, oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Simmer on low heat for at least 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Before serving, stir in the grated Parmesan cheese for added flavor.
